Professor Pan Jianwei at the University of Science and Technology of China, together with his colleagues Lu Chaoyang, Liu Naile and Wang Xilin et al., achieved 18-qubit entanglement for the first time by exploiting three degrees of freedom of six photons, including their paths, polarization, and orbital angular momentum, which set the world record for preparing the largest entangled state in all physical systems. The paper was published in Physical Review Letters as “Editors’ Suggestion”. It took only three weeks from the submission to the official acceptance via international peer review.
