University of Science and Technology of China Made Significant Progress in Quantum Communication, Realizing the First-ever Optical Demonstration of Extendable Quantum Repeater

Recently, Prof. Pan Jianwei and his colleagues including Chen Yu'ao and Zhao Bo from the University of Science and Technology of China, using parametric down-conversion sources, realized the world's first nested purification and two-hierarchy entanglement swapping for a linear optical quantum repeater. Based on this technology, the dominant noise, which hinders distribution-state from coherent operation during quantum entanglement swapping, can be automatically washed out. It provides forward-looking technical guidance for extendable linear optical quantum repeater based on atomic ensemble in the future. These two major achievements have been published on Nature Photonics and Physical Review Letters, two internationally renowned journals respectively.
